I-38-3 Crow parfleche.
The Crow speak one of the Siouan languages belonging to the Missouri River complex and closely related to Hidatsa. They in habited much of eastern Montana and were considered to be one of the pivotal Plains cultures. Their material culture is perhaps some of the most sought after by collectors of Plains tribes. This bold example is from the Darrel Howell collection and is illustrated in the book: “Reflections, The Darrel S. Howell Collection”, with Introduction by George P. Horse Capture, 1995. On page 65 it states that this parfleche was purchased in 1953 by Howell from Abe Lincoln Second Hand Store and Pawn Shop in Wapatto, Washington. Although it is listed in the catalog as Yakima, it more closely resembles Crow parfleche.
A very handsome example with collection history and published. 27"Long by 10"wide. Circa 1890. $2,750.00
