I-M-316 Zuni antler carving of Hututu.

The people of Zuni Pueblo speak what is known as a language isolate which means that it has no relationship to any other native language and is simply called Zuni. Their pueblo can be found in west central New Mexico about 30 miles from Gallup. Zuni was particularly important for their fetish production producing fetishes for both native consumption as well as for sale to the collector market starting in the late 19th century.  Less common variations of Zuni fetish carving are figures of Zuni kachina images, done in carved antler or bone. These unusual images were made only rarely for sale as sculpture. The kachina image portrayed here is called Hututu and dates to the mid 1970's. It stands about 7"high and has a glossy finish with minimally carved features.

An unusual and most interesting object with a highly abstract quality. $175.00
