Mexican Pin

E-1-155 Mexican pin made by the famous Ledesma.

Enrique Ledesma was one of the top artisans working for William Spratling at Taller de las Delicias in the famous silver city of Taxco, Mexico. He had trained as an artist at the San Carlos Academy of Art in Mexico City and eventually opened his own studio The Platera Ledesma in 1950. His jewelry designs are quite distinctive and include several periods of highly creative modern designs. In 1956 his was listed in a travel guide as one of the best silver shops in Taxco (Morrill and Berk, 1994:182-185). This pin is part of a series created by Ledesma around 1955 all having this modern fluid design fusing stone with silver in a simple elegant form. This piece is set with a partially translucent green stone (possibly chrysocolla) and is signed “Ledesma-Mexico-280-Taxco-925JE”.

2 3/4 inches long. Circa 1955. $350.00
